Jackson Hole, WY TETONS

This last weekend we had a fun road trip where we took a ride up through Pinedale and into Jackson Hole to meet Dave's brother Dan who was coming from Idaho Falls.  We arrived in the parking lot around 3 p.m. and an hour later we were skinning up the hill where we could see our destination for the night.  We were planning on climbing up a mountain, camping and then skiing the hourglass couloir.  I was pretty excited with this being my first ski in and camp trip other than the time my friend Traci and I built a snow hut in college and slept in it.   I have to admit my pack was feeling pretty heavy as we headed out and it was a little mentally defeating realizing how far we had to go.  I was also automatically thinking about our Wapta traverse we have planned in a month and the fact that I would be carrying a heavy pack for a week with more weight.
It was beautiful weather though and about four hours later we made it to camp in the dark.  We quickly put out tents together and got water boiling because we were pretty hungry.  Dan and I were laughing at the delicious dinner we had of chicken rib meat and potatoes all dehydrated.  I have to say though that I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was!
We slept pretty soundly and other than having to get up in the middle of the night and stomp outside in snow boots to find an appropriate place to go to the bathroom and then waking up Dave and Dan who then did the same we made it through the night just fine.  It helped that I was in a -20 degree bag too.
We woke up to fog that quickly cleared and then started hiking.  It was so refreshing to be in new mountain terrain instead of the Wasatch where we have mainly skied this year and to also be there all alone.  We only saw one other skier all day and had no helicopters flying over our heads.
We did two great climb and ski lines and then did some glacier rescue practicing, packed everything up and headed back.  We decided to go back a little early and go to Idaho Falls where we stayed and visited with Tiffany and hung out with Liam which was a lot of fun too.  All in all it was a great weekend, we are excited to go back and become more familiar with the Tetons and all the great tours they have to offer.
