The Redwoods

It has been a very busy spring with almost every weekend being taken up by something fun to do or somewhere fun to go.  In late May Dave was on a business trip to Texas and I was just finishing up for school and feeling desperate/depressed to go do some skiing.  I was feeling a little emotional when Dave and I were talking on the phone and we planned to go ski Mt. Lassen, a volcano in Northern California the following weekend.  Sometimes I wish I didn't leave town and get out so often, but when you have been working and doing school consistently for what seems like forever it starts to feel pretty overwhelming after a while and my sanity is having something fun to look forward to and going to Vernal and Wal Mart does not cut it.

We were pretty hesitant about the weather the night before and talked about going somewhere else like Rainier or Mt. St. Helens.  We went to bed a little deflated but determined to do something cool.  The next morning we woke up really early and checked the weather again, it had gone from a 100% chance of rain on Lassen to a 15%.  We thought it was so lucky and quickly packed up and hit the road.  We were excited for just the two of us to have a road trip and enjoyed visiting and the views.  We drove all day and ended up at the base of the mountain about 10 p.m. that night.  We were disappointed that there was a ton of fog and it was lightly snowing.  We set up our tent and woke up to a light rain and Dave saying it had rained most of the night.  That meant that either we would be skiing on mashed potatoes after trying to find out route in the fog or we could go somewhere else.  After a lot of deliberation and bummed out expressions we decided to go to Oregon to see the redwoods and Oregon coast line, something I had never been to before.  We started driving and about 6 hours later we made it there and hiked around exploring the giant trees.  We found one that was more than 1500 years old and taller than a football field.  We hung out at the beach a little and then headed over to see the Rogue river, which was fun because we would be back in a few weeks to raft down it.  It made us even more excited to see how beautiful it was.

Later that night we splurged and got a hotel room, something we rarely do, but felt we deserved after so much time spent in the truck.  We stayed in Klamath Falls, OR. woke up early and hit the road again.
We ended up in Winemcca around lunch time and got home around 9:30.  We drive so much but it was a sweet road trip.  It was so nice to just hang out together after a couple busy months of busy work schedules.

So excited to come back in a month and float this Rogue river.  We have not had a drop of rain at home all spring and summer, we hope it rains the whole trip!
