This year we decided we needed to do the Rogue River. I think it was the last permitted river that Dave had left to do in the Western states. We got a permit and invited Mom and Dad, Alex and his Dad, Houston and Ken. Ken threw out his back before and wasn't able to go. We hit the road and met everyone else up there after leaving a Tuesday night, staying with Aunt Linda then heading again up North back tracking the route we had taken a few weeks earlier. It was a lot of fun going up with my parents they are great road travelers and we are always so happy when they can come along. They really bring a lot to every trip are fun, cool and hip, not your average parents...... Dave and I are both so happy they decided to get a raft and really feel fortunate about the memories we've had with them on all the trips we've taken.....so, the trip was a great one! We were pretty road weary by the end, grabbed some meat on a stick at a nearby grocery store and camped at the put in. My dad bought a fishing tag and so did Alex but neither had any luck. We were amazed at how green and lush the river was.
We saw plenty of birds, turtles lounging on rocks, fish and salamanders. It was nice and sunny the first day and then rainy which was a nice change from the heat. We made it down Rainey Falls without a hitch and loved not knowing what was around each corner. None of us had ever been on this river. We plenty of waterfalls and side creeks coming in and moss covering everything. There was a large homestead we also visited, painted red up high from the river. It is a historic site now and as always is interesting to see how the people lived back then and how different things are now.
We ended up camping in a church parking lot on the way home and my parents did too, my mom was going to sleep in the truck. I have no idea how she can stand it. We woke up early and hit the road again for a 12 hour day drive back to the desert we live in. What a fun trip and memory, we hope to go back again soon and make it into a long trip by starting earlier than the usual put in.
Mom and Dad made sure Dave had a caffeinated beverage in hand at all times....they love their son-in-law. |
Always dreaming....someday. |
