Grand Gulch & Arches - Backpacking

This last Memorial weekend Dave and I did a back packing trip to Grand Gulch down by Lake Powell.  I was excited after hearing all about it from his previous trips twenty years ago.  We ended up hiking 27 miles and put in two long days.  There were a lot of ruins and plenty of wildflowers along the way.  The trail was mostly sandy with a lot of ups and downs which is why my ankles are now so sore.  We had some fun trying to find watering holes and loved the taste of the nasty chlorine water Dave made up that was treated four times too strong.  The next batch we only treated it once and decided to be a little riskier, well not really.

I loved having it be just the two of us with no cell phones or distractions.  We ran into a few people one couple who had a 6 month old child with them and another man from Montana who was an author and owned his own trekking company.  We made it back to town Sunday night and had fun hanging out with family then set off for Arches the next morning for another day of hiking and sight seeing.

Landon loves the camera!
Parker, Landon and Preston, I think Preston was a little bored with this funny face game
Liz packed us a great lunch and we were super lucky to find a bench under some shade, it was pretty hot this day.

These little guys were impressive climbers
