4-wheeling the Piaute Trail

This last weekend Dave and I decided to take off to Salina and try to ride the entire Paiute trail.  We left a day later than we had hoped, work always seems to throw a kink in things.  We left late Thursday around four and ate dinner at the local Burger King, heavy pickle, heavy tomato and then headed up a road we had hoped was in the right direction.  After about 20 minutes on a dirt road in the dark we found a pull out area, unloaded our four wheelers and while Dave repaired a flat I set up the tent and sleeping bags on the trailer.  It was pretty cold so we climbed in quick and had a semi-restful sleep with cows mooing in the distance when we woke up to the sunrise.  It was a beautiful day with clear skies and crisp air.  We could see some snow on the mountains in the distance and hoped our tread free, need to be replaced tires, would do alright.  We set off around 9 and rode as fast as we could hoping to cover as much distance as possible the first day and to also allow for a possible snow covered Tuschar mountain pass that would force us to turn back.
We first stopped in Koosharem and refueled with gas and Dave treated himself to two delicious gas station hot dogs.  We hit the trail again ending up in Circleville and stopped at the local RV store, the only place to fuel up in town.  After grabbing a drink and shedding some layers, trading off our Iphone with the Foster The People soundtrack on it we then headed off again up to the mountains above Beaver.  We made it up and over with just a little snow covered areas and some ice.  We made it down off the mountain after dark and camped out on top of a little hill.  We had some late night dinner and headed off to bed around 9.  We woke up about 12 hours later, we were both pretty tired after riding 150 miles the day before.
We were excited to see what the second day would bring.  We loved it as much as the first day and decided this is a great trail to do every year and maybe next time take an extra day to be able to some of the side trails too and hikes in to waterfalls.  We had lunch on top of a pass which consisted of tortillas and tuna with ramen.  It was so good to have something hot.  We made it back to the truck around 4 p.m., loaded up and hit the road pretty excited we were able to do the whole thing and especially in the first weekend of November!  I love being able to go have adventures like this with Dave, I feel like a pretty lucky wife to have such a fun husband who is such a great planner and entertainer on trips.  It's fun to cruise around with each other on our wheelers and see where they can take us with a push of the thumb.
